frequently asked questions about wedding photography

Hello and welcome to our blog! Here are some of the most frequently asked wedding photography questions.

1. how far in advance should we book our wedding photographer?

Most couples book 12–24 months in advance, especially for popular summer dates and Saturdays. If your wedding is at a well-known Shropshire venue, it's worth securing your photographer as soon as you've chosen your date.

2. do you travel throughout shropshire?

Yes. I will travel anywhere in Shropshire and take your photographs for free to build my portfolio! I can travel further however would need travel arrangements covered by yourself as I am still taking the photographs for free.

3. how many photos will we receive?

This varies by photographer and coverage length, but a full-day wedding typically delivers around 400 professionally edited images. However, as I am doing it for free and have more photoshoots to do, I will take as many as I can but it may only be up to 200 professionally edited images.

4. how long will it take to receive our photos?

Most photographers deliver a preview gallery within a few days (the most important images of the groom and the bride) and the full gallery within 4–12 weeks, depending on the season and editing workload. It also depends on the style of photography you would like from us.

5. do you offer engagement or pre-wedding shoots?

Many photographers offer engagement sessions. Including us! They're a great way to get comfortable in front of the camera and get to know your photographer before the wedding day.

6. what happens if it rains?

Some wedding photographers work in all weather conditions. Rest assured, Shropshire's countryside can look beautiful in mist, light rain, or dramatic skies. Indoor locations and covered areas are always identified as backup options. We are more than happy to accommodate to this.

7. how much wedding photography coverage do we need?

A typical full-day package covers bridal preparations through to the first dance and evening celebrations. Smaller packages are often available for intimate weddings and elopements.

8. do you photograph natural moments or posed photos?

Most modern wedding photographers combine documentary-style coverage with a small amount of relaxed guidance for couple portraits and family group photographs. This means relax, pretend we are not there and we will capture those natural moments.

9. can we provide a list of family group photos?

Absolutely. A family photo list helps ensure important combinations are captured efficiently and keeps formal portraits organised. You can have as many group shots as you would like but it would take much longer to get them edited and back.

10. are you insured?

Professional wedding photographers should carry public liability insurance and professional indemnity insurance. As we are voluntary and do not get paid we do not carry this as we are not getting paid for our work. It just means if we damage something, we will have to pay with our own money, which we will.

11. do you have backup equipment?

As we are starting we do not, however, we are saving up our money from our part-time jobs to afford more lenses and back up cameras. However, we are free so we can only afford so much.

12. can we print the photos ourselves?

Yes of course, whilst we are free, we would rather you print them yourselves. You get digital copies for free but if you want us to print, there will be a small fee or you could print them yourselves. We will give you access to an online gallery and you can choose what you would like to do with those select images. Including downloading them onto memory cards, if you want use to do that, it would cost more.

13. do you provide wedding albums?

We can do a digital album, however if you would like a wedding album there will be an extra cost for us to make that just to cover materials. In this we will ensure all of those wedding photos get delivered to your house.

14. how much does wedding photography cost in shropshire?

Prices vary significantly based on experience and coverage. As a rough guide:

  • Newer photographers: £500–£1,200

  • Established professionals: £1,200–£2,500

  • Highly sought-after specialists: £2,500+

  • Us- £0 (just for permission for us to use agreed upon photos for social media and our website, it will not be anything embarrassing).

15. how do we choose the right wedding photographer?

Look for:

  • A style you genuinely love.

  • Someone who can identify the most important parts of your wedding.

  • Consistent galleries rather than just highlight images.

  • Positive reviews.

  • Experience with weddings similar to yours.

  • A personality that makes you feel comfortable.

16. have you photographed at our venue before?

While prior venue experience can be helpful, a skilled photographer can quickly assess lighting, locations, and opportunities at any venue. Many photographers also visit new venues before the wedding day. As we are new, it is very unlikely we have done it before, however if you go through our gallery you should see where we have been.

17. how long should we allow for couple portraits?

Most couples set aside 15–30 minutes, often split into two shorter sessions, allowing plenty of time to enjoy the day with guests.

18. do you work with a second photographer?

I do not work with a second photographer for free. This is because she will have to sort out childcare and she has a bit more experience than I do, but we can negotiate a price per extra photographer (max 3 photographers overall). This is because we only have 2 high tech camera bodies and the 3rd photographer would have an older model, however this could make the photos look vintage.

19. what is required to secure our date?

Most photographers require a signed contract and a booking fee or deposit, with the remaining balance due before the wedding. For us, it is just a signed contract.

20. will our photos be edited?

Yes. Professional editing is included to ensure colour consistency, exposure correction, and a polished final gallery while maintaining a natural look. We ensure your wedding day is captured in the most beautiful (and colour corrected) way!
